First, I'm still in here. In case people were wondering.
Second, I'm having a tough internal (in two senses) debate about how to spell the shortened version of my name. I'm pushing for "E-v-v-y" so that anyone with any phonics skills will get it right. I've been hearing from outside the womb that certain family members prefer "E-v-y" or "E-v-i-e." My big fear is that if I get tagged with one of those spellings, almost everyone will pronounce it "ee-vee." Thus, I will be doomed to a life of correcting people until the frustration builds up and I snap and open fire in a crowded Taco Bell.
In order to prevent this tragedy, I invite you to weigh in with comments on what you think the spelling of my nickname should be. Let's resolve this once and for all, before I get born and it's too late.

It's not that bad to have to correct people on the pronuciation of your name. I get it all the time, especially with the pronunciation of my last name.
How about Evvi? Or Evvee? Doubling the consonant v will keep the vowel in the first syllable short. Do you want the vowel in the second syllable to be long or short? Problem is that the names, all of them, look strange. Even Evvy looks strange (and that one sort of looks like Envy.) Evi does have the advantage of mirroring the three letters of Eli, even though his is pronounced with the long vowels. It's short, always an advantage. Another possibility is Evveey. Or to try something different, Ev!, letting the exclamation mark serve as the vowel. Sure you don't want to call her Lynn?
Good grief. I didn't realize that the double v's looked like w's when typed. Double v will not do. You'll have everyone thinking of sheep. Evi and Evie are the best bets.
you have been very taciturn this past week.
oh my. well if you don't want to be ee-vee, you better spell it evvy. i'm just saying. i am ALL about the correct spelling of names and how people will pronounce them and it is one of my things and i have never had a name that was hard to say, but just earlier today i was telling people you were going to be nicknamed "ee-vee" and now i feel horrible, only i know that such a thing would have never happened if it had been spelled so that it was correct. oh, only i like evie better and i think that phonetically that reads the right way AND it is how i always imagined it and i'm sure that is what everone is looking for and the only thing is that it was approximately 20 years ago when i learned phoetics, so take it with a grain of salt. but still. i say evie. pronounced...drat. that wasn't how you wanted it. i am having quite an internal dialogue right now and i just hope that you guys are bright enough to straighten it all out. good luck with the big day!!!
